Ally

Ally was born, outside of course, in the grass by my shed, in the evening of May 30th 2011. Mia’s first puppy, it was a difficult birth, hard contractions, two feet out, two feet back in, so I finally grabbed a towel and assisted in her birth. She was a huge puppy at 20 ounces, big for a for a maiden bitch. I had bred Mia to Mason, (Multi BISS GCH Big Sky’s Stone Kutter) a gorgeous black boy that carried chocolate, and I was hoping for a chocolate bitch puppy.

My Beautiful chocolate bitch Ally. She started everything for me, she was up for everything I wanted to do, and did anything I asked of her. She got her first AKC points at 10 months old, from the Bred By classes after my good friend Linda Fitzmaurice suggested that is where I should show her. We did really well in the puppy sweepstakes classes, and at one year and one week old she earned her first major by going Winner’s Bitch and Best of Opposite Sex over Specials. She continued to do well, picking up points here and there, even placing 3rd in Bred By Chocolate Bitches class at The Potomac. In between showing, we also earned her Working Certificate, and Canine Good Citizen titles, both with minimal training. Ally had several Best Bred By Exhibitor in Specialty Show wins and Specialty placements. Then she became the Reserve Winners Bitch Queen, many times to Majors, enough times to finish her once, and then again. She didn’t end up finishing her Championship, but she is always a Champion in my book.

Ally was classically beautiful, beautiful old-fashioned head planes, nice dark chocolate coat color, nice brown eye color and the sweetest expression. She looked at me with love bubbles in her eyes, sweet, happy, her tail never stopped wagging, I would get comments from judges, and others, about how connected we were, in and outside the ring. She was silly, goofy and had a great sense of humor, always ‘helping’ me do yoga, fetching dropped items on the floor, and doing things just to make us laugh. She had quite a few nicknames but her favorite, and mine, was “Bear”. She rolled on her back, legs in the air, thrusting her rear legs in the air while grunting and growling in pure joy, making her Bear Noises. We could get her to make those noises by saying “Bear!” to her and she would wiggle, wag and be a Bear.

She was a natural, wonderful, Earth Mother, and enjoyed her pregnancies and her own babies very much. She also enjoyed being the playful, nurturing “Tante Weewee" or Auntie Ally to puppies that weren’t hers. When my Katy died with 3 week old puppies, Ally hopped into the whelping box and mothered those orphaned babies as if they were her own, guiding them, and giving them all they needed, a mother.

After motherhood, we retired her to the couch, my bed, and our boat, she loved to swim, run and retrieve and play with the other dogs.

Ally got very sick suddenly, and after treatments failed we knew the time had come, to let her go. As I held her head, neck and shoulders against me, whispering words of love and gratitude, I noticed she was wagging her tail until the last signs of life left her body.

I miss you and love you Bear Dog, gone too soon, you were a Good Gurl, the best gurl.

Ally is Mia's firstborn, from her first litter, I was smitten at birth, and still just love her! She is named after the Jason Aldean song, "My Kinda Party", which also pays homage to her mom's registered name "Here For The Party". Ally's dam is Mia. Ally's daughter is Miley.
